Revolutionising Architectural Visualisation: Our Investment in Gendo

We're thrilled to announce our lead investment in Gendo's $1.1 million pre-seed round. Gendo is an AI platform purpose built for architects and designers - bringing their ideas and sketches to life.

We're joined in this round by Baobab Ventures (led by Carles Reina), Ascension Ventures and a roster of angel investors from the AI and architecture sectors, including the former head of global design at WeWork.

The Multi-Billion Architectural Opportunity

In architecture and design, visualisation is crucial for winning competitive bids and progressing projects from concept to construction. However, producing these visualisations is time-consuming and expensive, often taking weeks and incurring significant costs (a single high-quality architectural visualisation for a large project can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 or more when outsourced). It is estimated that up to 15% of a project's total budget can be spent on this alone, and many larger firms employ full-time visualisers.

The Gendo Solution

Founded by architectural designer and visualiser George Proud and software engineer Will Jones, Gendo is designed to revolutionise this process.

The After and Before (from sketch to final render)

Their AI co-pilot for architecture and design can:

  • Transform 2D drawings, sketches, or text prompts into intricate 3D visualisations in minutes.
  • Generate multiple options for users to choose from.
  • Allow for detailed editing, including masking and tweaking specific elements like colours, lighting, or structural features.
  • Add context-specific details such as era-appropriate furniture, culturally appropriate clothing on people, and topographically correct trees.

But this is just the start for Gendo, as they look to build more tooling for architects' workflows and develop products that represent the capabilities of the mid-2020s.

Why We're Excited

Given our people-centric lens on investing, we focus heavily on the founding team behind every investment. The unique combination of George's domain-specific knowledge coupled with Will's robust technical understanding of the cutting-edge image models result in a strongly positioned team ready to tackle this large and underserved market.

At Concept Ventures, we are always looking at teams who are setting out to transform or disrupt legacy workflows, and Gendo checks all these boxes for us:

  1. Industry-Specific Verticalised AI: Unlike mainstream generative image platforms, Gendo is explicitly tailored for architects and designers, offering the precision and control they need.
  2. Impressive Traction: Already in beta use by global architecture practices, including Zaha Hadid Architects, KPF, David Chipperfield Architects, and Benoy.
  3. Founder-Market Fit: George's frustration with existing visualisation processes led directly to Gendo's creation, ensuring a deep understanding of the problem and solution.

Looking Ahead

This pre-seed investment will fuel Gendo's growth in several key areas:

  • Expanding the capabilities of their proprietary AI tools
  • Accelerating the launch of new features for architects and designers
  • Scaling their London & Bristol-based team

The Founders Perspective

CEO and co-founder George Proud comments:

Mainstream generative image platforms can be really impressive, but they simply aren’t fit for purpose when it comes to a sector like architecture and design. In our industry, detail and precision is everything. Gendo has been designed specifically for these professionals; we’ve built an AI co-pilot that speeds up design work and allows creativity to flourish.
“We’re eliminating the burdensome processes currently involved in visualisations and instead making it an efficient, instinctive and empowering experience. Gone is the era of waiting days to receive one small image of a tree to add to your design. We’re thrilled with how well the platform has been received amongst leading architecture firms during our beta and we’re looking forward to partnering with industry further to enhance the value of Gendo’s tools.”

We're thrilled to partner with George, Will, and the entire Gendo team as they redefine the future of architectural visualisation. Their commitment to designing a best-in-class product, laser-focused on adding value for end-users, has us confident that Gendo will quickly become an integral part of how architectural and design ideas are brought to life.

Stay tuned for more updates on Gendo's journey to revolutionise the world of architecture and design!
